In 1992, former Salisbury University student Melissa Dorn collected folk material. Her work focuses on the people who relocated to Maryland and their views of the cultural differences. In this paper, she explains the first impression of the Eastern Shore and how it differed from her home state. She also interviewed several new-comers. One of them believed that the bridge had a mystical effect: when one crosses it, one enters into a "time warp" where things are very slow paced. Another informant from Germany was having hard time dealing with the racism and the lack of education of some residents. She was worried that her family would never fit in. The student's mother thought the same about fitting in. On a more positive note, the student also recounts the new things she learned and enjoyed about the Eastern Shore.
